Bad Boys in Love: Contemporary Romance Series Box Set
Box Set Description:
Book 1: Crushing on Best Friend's Sister
His charm was being used on me.
He was a walking disaster if he got too close.
And he got too close.
Way too close and now I was on fire.
I wanted to tell him to stay, but I couldn't get it out.
He had a girlfriend. And I had a fiance.
On top of that, he was my brother's best friend.
Was the chemistry of what I had with Jesse, enough to throw away all of my plans for the last year?
Jesse was, danger and risk. So why was I dying to get closer?
Book 2: Billionaire Boss
Life was good. Everything that I needed was there at the drop of a hat.
I was happy, until the day she joined my office.
Getting a whiff of Amelia, seeing her brilliant smile, was enough to make me see red when I thought my assistant would dare look at her too long.
I hated that I wanted her so badly.
And the worst part was that she wanted someone else.
Dominic was handsome and he had good luck with the ladies.
He said he was monogamous, but it didn’t look like he was a committed man, when he was making Amelia laugh and carry on.
What were the two of them talking about? I really wanted to know.
Book 3: My Next Door Neighbor
Mike is everything that I need to stay away from.
He’s cocky, rude and always has something to say.
He’s the neighbor from hell.
I had known Mike for years.
We lived just next door to each other.
And we never missed a chance to bully each other.
I try to ignore the way he looks at me.
I try to ignore the way he makes me feel.
Nothing works.
When he sets his sights on me,
I can do nothing but give in.
I don’t want to.
I just can’t help myself.
Mike is still the man that has pleased so many. And the mysterious girl that visits his home at nights. Why would he give that all up, for me?
Book 1: Crushing on Best Friend’s Sister: A Bad Boy Romance
Prologue
Amber
“Come on Jesse. I don't know why you are acting this way. All you have to do is give me a ride and that's it. Come on.”
Jesse looked at me like he wasn't sure what he wanted to do. I could tell that I was putting him in a bad position, but I didn't care. The last thing I needed was for my brother to find out about this. He would not be so understanding.
“What are you even doing here? This isn't the place for you Amber and you know it.”
I had decided that I wanted to go to one of the parties that were always going on at school. It was my freshman year at USC. My brother Phillip was already going to school there and was a senior. He had warned me about going to some of the parties at the sororities, but I didn't listen. Of course, I had to go. That's where everybody was going, and I didn't want to be left out.
Now that I had seen what went on here, I was ready to leave. I needed Jesse to take me home before Phillip found out that I was here. If he found out that I went to one of these parties he was going to flip out and that wasn't going to be good. He was already far too involved in my life.
Jesse wasn't moving fast enough for me and I decided to try another tactic. I batted my eyes at him and smiled in a way that I knew he wouldn't be able to ignore. Even though Jesse was older, and he was my brother's best friend, I knew things about him, that Philip did not know. I knew that Jesse had a crush on me and it was hard to deny it. I saw him checking me out from time to time.
I smiled a little bigger as I moved closer to him, touching his shirt with my hands.
“Jesse if you don't take me home, I will be in big trouble. You don't want to see me in trouble, do you?”
For a moment, he returned the smile almost immediately and I thought I was in the clear. All I needed him to do was feel sorry for me or to get turned on. I didn’t care either way, if it got me out of here, that's all that mattered.
It worked for a little while, but it was like Jesse had to shake himself and realize what I was doing. He wasn’t letting me toy with him like I wanted to.
“Stop messing with me, Amber. I can give you a ride back to your room
, but just know that I'm going to have to tell your brother. I promised him that I would keep an eye on you too.”
“You want to keep an eye on me, huh? If that is what you wanted, all you had to do was say something.”
I was pushing a little harder, but this time Jesse just clicked his tongue and shook his head. He wasn’t going to go for it, but he thought about it for a minute.
Jesse’s eyes fell on mine for a moment and I held my breath, not even realizing I had done so until he made a reprimanding sound and told me that it was time to go.
“I don't know what possessed you to come here anyway. I could have told you that Beta Phi Chi was one of the worst places for a girl like you to go. Be more careful, Amber. The way you are dressed tonight…”
“Why does what I’m wearing have anything to do with it? I could be in a paper bag and guys are still going to look at me the way that you do.”
I heard another frustrated breath and if I was smart, I would've left him alone. If I was a nice, I would want to leave him alone, but I just turned up the pressure instead. I’d always been attracted to Jesse and I was very aware when he started to really notice me.
“I see the way you look at me, Jesse. I know what you think about.”
He tried to deny it, but halfway through he looked down and wouldn't meet my eyes again. I know why he couldn't look at me. The very fact that he watched me from time to time, was enough to get him and my brother fighting. My brother was very protective of me and it did not matter if Jesse was his friend or not. Blood would trump friendship every time.
But I did so enjoy the games…
“You have no idea what I think”.
“I know that you like me. Not just a little bit, but like me, like me. I have known that for a couple of years now. Before I was too young Jesse, but now, I'm just the right age.”
He didn't answer me right away, so I leaned in to give him a kiss. I was almost certain of my words and when I tasted need on his lips, I knew that I was right. His lips were firm for a moment like he wasn’t going to kiss me back and then all of a sudden, he grabbed ahold of me and leaned me backward. Jesse’s lips were on mine in a whole new way and his tongue was pressing in between my lips.
By the time he was finished, I could barely catch my breath and I just kind of looked at him for a little while. I know I was in a daze, but I couldn't help it. Where had that come from, that was the question.
“You can tell your brother anything you want Amber. I'm still taking you home and I'm still telling him about the party. Will you get in the car and put your damn seat belt on now?”
He was acting like he felt nothing, but I could not do the same. My lips were throbbing where he had touched them, and my knees felt a little weak.
The whole way back to my dorm room, I kept asking myself what the hell just happened. I was trying to mess with Jesse, but he had somehow messed with my head instead. Now I was never going to be able to look at him the same way again.
Chapter 1
Jesse
“I know that you haven't been home in a while Jesse, but you need to come back. We got a lot going on in the family and we need you here.”
He said family like I was part of it, but I wasn't really. While Phillip was a good friend of mine, he was also someone that I had started to avoid for last few months. Every time I got involved with his family, bad things happened.
“It is just a wedding Phillip. I am sure that you will be okay. You know that I don't like those things. Everybody gets all weepy and lovey-dovey. It's just not for me”.
“You need to come and be here Jesse.”
“Why?”
It was like he had some scheme up his sleeve. Phillip’s mind ran a mile a minute all the time and I knew deep down that he was dragging me into another scenario that I was not going to like.
“So why do I need to come to your sister's wedding so badly?”
“Because you need to help me break it up. If you would just meet this tool, I promise that you would help me without any arguments. This guy needs to be as far away from my sister as possible.”
I sighed out loud to myself and clicked my tongue. I did not need to get roped into this, but I already knew before I refused three times, that I would do it. He had said the magical word, Amber.
As much as I like to avoid her at all costs now, there was another part of me that missed her a lot. Things had gotten complicated, but I have known her most of my life and there was a quick pang of loss when I heard that she was getting married. The idea of breaking up her marriage didn't seem like that bad of an idea to me.
“Are you sure that this is what she wants? I mean, you are known to get into her business and piss her off. Do you remember Ronald?”
I was referring to a guy that Phillip had decided was not good enough for his sister. We had met him, along with a couple of his friends outside a bar while he was coming out. Ronald was in the hospital for a week and the relationship seemed to fizzle out pretty quickly after that.
“Ronald was a necessity and trust me when I say this guy is no better. Once you meet him, you will know what I mean. He just has to go.”
As much as I wanted to tell him that I was going to stay out of that as he should, I knew that I wasn’t. Every time Phillip called me about Amber, he knew that I was going to help. Most likely that was why he always called, though he never knew why I always helped. Hopefully, he never would know.
“Look I can come down for a couple of days this weekend. What day is the wedding supposed to be?”
“It's going to be Sunday. I want you to come soon. Be on your best behavior.”
I had never heard that before and asked why.
“All of the extended family is going to be here. We have to do this without everybody knowing what's going on.”
“They might realize it if we beat the crap out of the groom. Don't you think?”
“This time it's different. With this guy, we're going to have to figure out another way to break them up.”
“Starting a little late, aren't you?”
“Yeah. It had to happen. I tried before, but it didn't work out, so this is like a last-ditch effort.”
“Well, you know how I like those. Let me take care of a few things here and I can be there tomorrow.”
“Thanks, man, you have always been my best friend.”
The phone hung up and I felt a moment of guilt. That's what he always said. That I was his best friend and such a good one at that. What he didn't know, was that I had a fire burning for his sister that had been ignited years ago at a party which had never gone away. No matter how far I physically went away from Amber, something or someone kept pulling me back to her.
∞∞∞
“I'm just going to leave for a couple of days, Mona. I think you're being a bit ridiculous. There is no need for all of this.”
By all of this, I meant the fact that Mona was throwing things at me as I was leaving. I told her that I was going to see Jesse and she didn't believe me. I didn't blame her. Things are complicated and Mona was not the first one on my list for honesty.
“Why do you always have to go every time he calls you?”
“You know why, because he is my friend. I am just going to help him out and I will be back in a couple of days.”
“Don't you mean you're going to help his sister out?”
The word stopped me in my tracks, and I turned back around to see what she meant by that.
“You know what I mean by that. I see the way you look at her.”
We had only been around Jesse and Amber one time since dating. Mona was a woman that had stuck around. I don't know why and sometimes I was up in the air if I wanted her to stay here. Most of the time though, I didn't care either way.
“Mona, it’s not like that. He is my friend, she's his sister, that's it.”
I pulled her in for a kiss and tried to massage away all of her fears. It wasn't the first time that I had heard comments about me and Amber. Appa
rently, something came over me when I was around her, no matter how hard I tried to fight it. It wasn’t something that I understood, so how would I talk to other people about it?
“I will be back in a couple of days. I am just helping a friend out.”
“Then take me with you. If you were just going to attend the wedding because they are like family, then let me go with you.”
I immediately was shaking my head no, but I didn't really have an excuse as to why. It made sense. It was logical. Mona and I have been dating for over a year and this was a sort of thing that I was supposed to invite her to, even though I really didn't want to.
“You're right Mona. If you can pack quick enough, we can go. The plane is going to take off in half an hour, so get ready and you can come with.”
She had the biggest smile on her face. The red painted lips almost cracked from the height that they went. She launched into my arms for a moment and kissed me on the lips. I felt nothing. I should have, but I don’t.
“This is exactly what we need Jesse.”
I agreed with her, although inside I was disagreeing to the fullest. This was going to be a disaster.
Chapter 2
Amber
“What the hell are you doing here Jesse?”
“What do you mean?”
“You know exactly what I mean. Why did my brother bring you here? Please tell me that you're going to leave my fiancé alone.”
“I am just here to congratulate the bride. That's it.”
Jesse had that smile on his face that I tried to ignore. He was the type of guy that could make anyone smile. He could make a nun blush with his words and expressions. I knew better than to get too close to him. Men like Jesse were dangerous and since my brother had asked him to come by the house, I figured I knew why. Jesse hadn’t come for no reason.
“I don't believe you for a second Jesse.”
He moved towards me, ignoring my words and pulled me in for an embrace. I closed my eyes for a moment, taking in the smell of Jesse and the strong arms around me. But then I knew I had to pull away. Jesse was one of those guys that I thought I wanted a long time ago, but it never happened. Over time, I learned that we were not meant to be and even though I may have wanted it to happen, I knew that it wasn't going to. He was never going to go against my brother, so by default, be with me. Jesse had this control that had driven me crazy more than once.
