  Chapter 1

  Audrey

I sat quietly in my car, staring at the long road behind me through the rear-view mirror and wondering how long I had to wait for Elliot Anderson. Today it was little warmer during the afternoon, although the sun was hidden behind thick clouds for more than an hour.

I scrolled down through my mobile for a while and then my mind again shifted to Elliot. He had two daughters, the most beautiful angels anyone could come across on the internet.

Elliot and I had never spoken over the phone, but we had exchanged several emails. I wondered why he had chosen a lonely cottage at the edge of the town when there were multiple beautiful homes for rent in the middle of the old city.

After his first email, I replied with questions about how long he would be staying in Aspen and if he needed anything else apart from the house. His responses were usually short and precise, and as expected, he didn’t negotiate the tariff of the cottage. By the second week, he had transferred the entire rent sum for a month and had sent an itinerary of his arrival, so he could be shown around the house and be given the keys and receipt of payment.

One night when I was checking emails while listening to my favorite music, I searched his profile on social media, I was not a stalker. But I just felt like seeing his face.

I sighed when a very handsome male figure, who didn’t look more than thirty-six, popped on the top.

Wow! He is so handsome. He must be some model.

After seeing that extremely gorgeous man, I was not going to stop here. I checked out a few more pictures of him. But I wondered if he was the same Elliot Anderson?

Just hold the horses Audrey, he can’t be a dad of two grown up girls.

Elliot was forty-five and his older daughter was thirteen years old according to the guest details he had sent me.

“So, he is not the same Elliot, Audrey.”

I smiled thinking if I should send a request to the man on my screen. I was still scrolling down the pictures and I was disappointed when I saw his picture with a beautiful girl. Then I shut down my laptop and slept as I had to get up early next morning.

Once again, I stared at the road behind my car and heaved another sigh as I noticed a Range Rover slowly moving towards me. The windows of the vehicle were tainted, but I could tell it was Elliot Anderson as no one else drove down to my mother’s house – at least, not since her death five years ago.

The car stopped behind mine; I rubbed my sweaty palm over my jeans. I quickly stared at my reflection in the rear-view mirror and stepped out wearing a broad smile on my face. Doors of the Range Rover slowly swept open, and I noticed wavy black hair on a teenage girl’s head before a man with broad shoulders and jet-black hair, stepped out of the front door.

Hot Damn… He is so handsome and hotter than he looks in photos.

Guess what? This devilishly handsome man on my screen was the same Elliot Anderson.

“Elysha, we are here,” He paused, obviously waiting for someone else to step out of the car.

I had read a lot about Elliot Anderson, but surprisingly, there only a few pictures of him were on the internet. And a large percentage were taken with him peeping out through the window of his tinted cars or from one of the windows of his large estate house. The man hardly allowed cameras to stay on him for too long, and it seemed he had a daughter who had inherited a similar coyness from him.

Elysha, much younger girl than the first that had stepped out through the front door, was taking longer than necessary. Elliot patiently tapped his foot on the ground while his older daughter stepped towards the house, smiling politely at me.

  “Hi,” she said.

“Hello,” I smiled back, stretching my hand to take hers. “You must be Lily Anderson.”

“Yes, I am,” she replied with a smile. She brushed a lock of her hair behind her left ear as she stared at the house behind me.

“So, this is it?” she muttered under her breath and…. she didn’t look much happy about the house, or maybe be it was something else.

“Yeah,” I said, turning to look at my mother’s cottage as if I was seeing it for the first time. I had grown up in this lovely house, and it had all beautiful memories from my childhood with my mother.

With three bedrooms and a large sitting room with a fireplace, the cottage had been built when I was three years old because my mother wanted to do something with the land, she had bought a very long time ago. The small land was adjacent to a small river and the view of the Aspen mountains and meadows. This gave the cottage a rich, country look while also making it quite uninteresting for a little girl like Lily.

“Your father seems to think it is perfect for a vacation,” I said, sharing a broad smile with the girl.

Lily’s smile didn’t turn out to be as broad as mine. “Yes, he said it is…” she said thoughtfully, “…and oh, there he comes wi
th my sister now.”

Little girl finally stepped out of the car and moved towards the house behind Elliot. I couldn’t see her face vividly, but I noticed that she had a tiny doll clasped to her chest.

Finally, when she peeped her head out behind her father, I let myself forget about her long curly hair and focused on her most innocent chubby face. She was so beautiful, a pretty doll. Her pink cheeks, cherry lips and small nose on that little round face looked mesmerizing. I couldn’t stop staring at her for more than required.

As they moved towards us, my eyes landed on Elliot’s charming face. Elliot Anderson was forty-five, but he didn’t look a day older than thirty-six with his smooth chin, his broad chest, his straight back, and the way he walked. I swallowed my saliva unconsciously as he closed the distance between us.

“I apologies we were a few minutes late, Miss Mathias. The car agency seemed to have a bit of problem with my demand to drive myself the entire time I am in Aspen.” He said in his heavy voice while removing his sunglasses giving me an opportunity to look into his intense green eyes.

I was at loss of words after seeing the most gorgeous billionaire standing in front me. I struggled to find correct words to answer. And he then stretched his hand for a handshake, and my heart raced for no reason when I shook his hand.

“You should have just accepted the driver, Dad,” Lily whispered before I could mutter a response.

“Here is Lily, my oldest daughter,” Elliot continued, pretending he didn’t hear her. “But I guess you two have already met. The shy one behind me is Elysha.”

“Hello, Elysha,” I said, finally stealing my glance away from Elliot to look at the little girl.

  “E—Elle,” she stuttered.

  “What was that?”

“Elle,” she again said. “I like to be called Elle. Only Dad calls me Elysha.”

“Oh, perfect, then,” I whispered, inching towards her and I slightly bent down so I could stare at her doll. “What is the name of your doll, Elle?” I asked.

She glanced at her father before sweeping her eyes back to me. “Barbie,” she said. “Her name is Barbie.”

“Okay,” I smiled. “Nice to meet you, Elle and Barbie. Would you like me to show you both around the house?”

For the first time, Elysha raised her head and stared at the house behind me. Unlike Lily, her eyes lit up with interest, especially when she glanced at the trees around the river. She walked towards the house, nodding her head slowly at my question.

I glanced at Elliot and noticed an awkward blankness on his face. He kept his eyes glued on me but perfectly hid whatever his thoughts were.

“Mr. Anderson?” I whispered already stepping towards the house with Elysha and Lily. “I will show you to the rooms and drop the key afterward. I live about fifteen minutes’ drive away, so I am available if you need anything else.”

Elliot nodded his head and it didn’t seem like he was listening what I was saying. By the time Lily, Elysha, and I stepped onto the front porch, I heard him grumble a few words behind me.

“What was that, Mr. Anderson?” I asked, glancing over my shoulder while also fishing for the keys in my bag.

“Call me Elliot,” I heard him whisper. “There is no need to be formal.”

“Ah… Ok,” I nodded at him. There was something about the tone of his voice that made my stomach tighten with anxiety. His eyes stared intently into mine for a few seconds. And it made me more nervous and I struggled to find keys in my bag.

Oh God help me! I don’t know if I had put the keys in the bag.

I smiled weakly at him and took a sigh of relief when I finally found the keys in my bag.

“Here you go,” I blurted. I caught him as his eyes trailed through the length of my shoulders and stopped at the middle of my chest.

“Y-yes, Mr. Ander… Elliot,” I stuttered. “I think you can call me Audrey, too.”

“Gladly,” he said before stepping onto the porch and waiting for me to open the door.

I turned my back to him, wondering if I hadn’t just imagined that he just stared at my breasts.

What if he is a womanizer? Or maybe you think too much, Audrey.

I rolled my eyes to myself. And now I felt little uncomfortable being around him. I tried to calm myself down.

“Lily, Elle, come on in with me. Let me show you the rooms.” It was best way to escape from the effect he was having on me.

I took the girls with me but I didn’t spend more than ten minutes. I took a sigh of relief when I stepped out of the room and he was not there in living area.

He must be in the restroom.

“I will come again if you need me, Okay?” I said

They both smiled and said, “Okay Miss. Audrey.” I smiled at both the girls and I could see they liked me, especially the little angel, Elle.

“Bye!” I said and I stepped out of the cottage and rushed towards my car.

“Byeeee!” Both the girls waved at me as they stood at the front door.

I was looking back at the girls when I suddenly bumped into something very hard but warm at the same time.

“Aa… Aa…Ouch!” Before I could understand anything, his left hand was wrapped around my waist.

My right hand landed on his chest as I tried to balance myself. I swallowed hard when my eyes met his gaze. I felt tiny against his big rock-hard body, and it felt warm around my waist.

“Are you all right Audrey?” I was little embarrassed and felt my cheeks burn at the same time, when my name came out of his mouth in his heavy voice.

“I… I… yeah, I am fine.” I said as I tried to release myself from his firm hold but it was full waste.

He slowly pulled his arm back and kept the bag of the luggage on the ground which he was holding in his right hand.

“Let me know if you need anything. I am just a call away.” I smiled weakly trying not to look into his eyes, feeling little embarrassed.

He nodded and he was completely expressionless whole time. He took the bag in his hand and got inside the cottage.

  That was rude. Huh!

I rolled my eyes ignoring my already increased heartbeat.

  *

I spent rest of the evening thinking about Elliot and every time I thought about him, I felt tickles in my belly. I was glad that Elliot and his daughters liked the cottage and were comfortable.

At night after grabbing my dinner, I sat comfortably at my bed, searched for Elliot Anderson once again on the internet.

He wasn’t just a random man who wanted a quiet home at the edge of a beautiful city. He was the Elliot Anderson – a successful business tycoon and one of the few billionaires of the world.

Elliot had started off with a little capital in foreign exchange at the age of twenty-one before delving into real estate, construction, and car sales a few years later. By the time he was thirty, he didn’t only he have various marvelous construction and sales agencies in major cities, but he also had shares in almost every new tech company. He was aggressive about buying more shares in businesses that would definitely disrupt the global market.

I woke up when my mobile alarm chimed. I didn’t remember when I fell asleep last night. I sighed when I thought about the last night I had spent reading about Elliot. I was initially stunned that a man with such wealth could write to me, himself, instead of getting a cranky secretary or personal assistant to do the job.

I was visiting the cottage again as they had just reached yesterday. And I wanted to be sure if they were comfortable. I drove slower than I used to, wondering if worrying was the reason to visit or it was just that I wanted to see Elliot again.

I didn’t remember anyone having this effect on me ever as I found most boys of my age little immature. Or may maybe, I was little older for my age.

Before I could get over my anxiety before stepping into the cottage, Elliot was in front of the house. He was on his knees beside the house, using his gloved left hand to weed and wipe the sweat off his forehead with t
he other hand. I froze for a while in my car while he glanced up, noticed me, and slowly stood back to his feet. He was wearing a tight vest that was soaked with his sweat, making it impossible not to notice his shoulder blades, his firm arms, and the dots of his tiny nipples. Everything about Elliot was pleasant to the eyes, and I swallowed hard before stepping out of the car.

“Hey, Audrey,” he said removing his glove and wiped his hands with a towel.

“Hi,” I whispered, smiling. I could tell gardening was his hobby.

I stared at the uprooted weeds beside the house and noticed how he had created space for some flowers to grow healthier. He had uprooted some flowers and replanted them at little more distance. I was impressed as I perked my brows.

“Umm, it is a surprise to see you. I didn’t default in some payment, did I?”
